Prince Akanni Idowu was born in Lagos, one of the sons of the Late Royal Majesty the Oba (King) of Ikorodu Land! (The Ayangburen of Ikorodu) He is the immediate past president of the Fashion Designers Association of Nigeria, where the young and upcoming designers were his major focus. He successfully created an imaginable platform for the young designers by organizing a Talent hunt competition at different times: 2009, 2010 and 2012.
He trained as a designer from the Yaba College of Technology and Macs Institute of Fashion & Dressmaking and Koya Industry (A Garment Factory) in 1986/89. He also studied Marketing Management at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University and Business Management at Lagos State University where he bagged his degrees.
He started his training ambition from Macs Institute of Fashion (1989) where he taught for years and started developing his skill through understudying of different fashion schools abroad; he also worked in three other fashion schools in the early 90’s.
In 1993, he decided to set up his own label, Nobel Fashions which was later changed to Nobel Afrik – the change came to existence because of his love for African fabrics and culture. Over the years Nobel has trained students as pattern makers, cutters and dressmakers both in and out of Nigeria. One of them, (Kola Kuduus, a top men’s wear designer in Nigeria today and many others also doing very well in the fashion and training industry today) Prince Akanni passion is not only to train but to see his students do well in the fashion industry.
Today, some his students has bagged awards at different times; Nigeria best designer in the year 2004 (Bayo Adegbe of Modela Couture), Chinneye Obi, 2nd Runner up Vilsco/Fadan fashion talent competition in the 2009, Fehintola Odusina of Phenchies Atuors Winner; Fashion Designers Association of Nigeria (FADAN) Talent Hunt 2012and Folusho George of yours fashionably, 1st Runner up FADAN Talent Hunt in the same year.
His designing label as proven it’s self in the fashion industry both home and abroad. His belief is that everybody is blessed with a means of achieving their dreams in life as he welcomes you to the world of possibilities, where dreams become reality.
